Any individual offering counseling services in the state of Mississippi must be licensed with few exceptions. It is the responsibility of this Board to regulate the practice of counseling and the use of the title Professional Counselor as we seek to protect the public health, safety and welfare of Mississippians.

The Board revised the Rules and Regulations and submitted to the Occupational Licensing Review Commission (OLRC), made up of the Governor, the Secretary of State, and the Attorney General, as required. After review, the OLRC issued a resolution regarding the approval of the Board’s rules with a few recommended edits. The Board has filed those Rules and Regulations as final with the Secretary of State’s Office for inclusion in the Mississippi Administrative Code with
effective date of January 1, 2023 (01/01/2023). The changes are posted on the Secretary of State’s website. Parts 2201 Rules 1 – 9

Types of Licenses
There are three types of licensure in the state of Mississippi each with educational, examination and experience components that applicants must fulfill to become licensed.
Pursuant to the provisions of the Universal Recognition of Occupational Licenses Act, Mississippi shall recognize occupational licenses obtained from other states.
